My name is Jessica Benson, and I am an English instructor. This school year will be my seventh year teaching English Language Arts to secondary level students with experience in both the states of Arizona and Wisconsin.
My personal teaching philosophy is: Learning is a process that will include moments of both great triumph and mistakes. The classroom focus shouldn't be about getting a good grade; it should be about applying background knowledge to new material in order to deepen critical life skills. Students need to be challenged in order to grow, and the classroom needs to provide a safe space for the growth to take place.
As part of my commitment to lifelong learning, I have earned a bachelor's degree in secondary English education and a master's degree in educational curriculum, instruction, and assessment. I am also currently enrolled in a program to earn a doctorate degree in educational curriculum and instruction with only a few classes left before I graduate.
